Uriah the Hittite was a loyal soldier in the army of David, King of Israel. He was married to the beautiful Bathsheba, but he was absent in military campaigns and had little with her . Bathsheba became the mistress of King David and got pregnant by her lover. David summoned Uriah back from the battle on a pretext. The plan was to have Uriah sleep with his wife and fool him into believing that he caused the pregnancy.However, Uriah ruined the plan by abstaining from sex. Uriah was preparing for his return to battle and ritually abstained from all with his wife. David decided to get rid of Uriah and marry Bathsheba himself. David sent Uriah back to combat, but gave secret instructions to general Joab (David's right-hand- man) to ensure the soldier's demise.During a battle. Joab placed Uriah on the front lines of the battle. He then instructed the rest of the soldiers to move away. Leaving Uriah alone to face the enemies. Uriah was killed in combat, as planned.
