Jasper Hale was born Jasper Whitlock, and is the adopted son of Carlisle and Esme, adoptive brother of Edward, Emmett, and Rosalie, and husband of Alice. He was born in Houston, Texas in 1844 and ed the Confederate Army in 1861 to serve in the Civil War at age 17. Due to his extremely charismatic personality, he ascended through the ranks quickly and eventually became the youngest major in Texas.Jasper was turned into a vampire in 1863 by a vampire named Maria when he was 19 years old. As a vampire, he gained the ability to sense and manipulate the emotions of those around him. Recognizing his high rank in the army, Maria decided to change him into a vampire to help her claim territory in Monterrey. Jasper's responsibility was to train young vampires and then kill them when they were no longer useful, which was about a year after their transformation when their strength began to fade.After about a century of this, he grew weary of the lifestyle and ed an old friend, Peter, and his mate Charlotte up North. asper left the two eventually, not wanting to feed on humans because he could feel his prey's emotions as they died. In 1948, he meets Alice and they the Cullens in 1950.When Edward brought Bella Swan home to meet the family, Jasper kept his distance so he wouldn't harm Bella, but when she got a paper cut, he tried to attack her, but was stopped and taken outside. Being the newest vegetarian vampire, Jasper was never able to acquire the self control to avoid human blood. In the end, Jasper votes to make Bella a vampire.In Breaking Dawn, Jasper and Alice travel to South America and find Nahuel, another half-human, half-vampire hybrid and bring him and his vampire aunt to Forks to prove to the Volturi that he and Renesmee are not dangerous.He is described as tall with honey blond hair, and is muscular but lean and is physically 20 years old. His body is covered with crescent-shaped scars, after the many years of fighting and training newborn vampires.
